NFS Time stamps differ from real writing time
Issue
- When RHEL NFS client creates a file in share provided by RHEL NFS server the time stamp is set to an exact second time (e.g 16:48:50.000000000 +0200) i.e. it gets truncated.
- Similar behaviour is not observed while creating the files on NFS shares provided by other operating system such as Solaris or using NetApp NFS exports, in this case the timestamps are no getting truncated (the timestamp set is: 16:48:50.538688889 +0200), such differences in the timestamps are causing bug in cross compilation programs.
$ ls -rt --full-time
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2011-09-06 16:56:42.000000000 +0530 mnt1/file1 <-------- Timestamps of the files created in NFS shares provided by RHEL 5 NFS servers.
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2011-09-06 16:56:42.900929000 +0530 mnt2/file2 <-------- The timestamps of the files created on NFS shares provided by NetApp or other OS such as Solaris, (the timestamps are not truncated).
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, 5
- RHEL NFS Client, Server (RHEL 4 or RHEL5)
- NFS exports from other OS, such as Solaris, NetApp filer.
