Inspite of having the latest schema on RHN Satellite version 5.4.1, why do we still get email alerts stating " satellite-schema upgrade available"

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • After installing new OS (RHEL 6.1) and restoring backup RHN Satellite from old OS (RHEL 5.5), every day morning we get email with this message:

    This is a notice to let you know that there is a satellite-schema upgrade available for SATELLITE-FQDN.

    Your current satellite-schema version:
        5.4.0.13-1.el5sat

    Available satellite-schema upgrade:
        5.4.0.13-1.el6sat

    We recommend to upgrade your satellite-schema at your earliest convenience to receive latest schema fixes.

    Please consult the appropriate errata solution text for detailed instructions on how to upgrade your satellite-schema.

    This mail is being generated automatically by a daily cron job:
        /etc/cron.daily/schema-upgrade-notif

  • Inspite of having the latest schema on RHN Satellite v5.4.1, why do we still get email alerts stating " satellite-schema upgrade available"

  • Executing spacewalk-schema-upgrade doesn't help. It throws the message :

    Schema upgrade: [satellite-schema-5.4.0.13-1.el5sat] -> [satellite-schema-5.4.0.13-1.el6sat]
    Your database schema already matches the schema package version

Environment

  • Red Hat Network (RHN) Satellite version 5.4.1
  • Base operating system of RHN Satellite changed from Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 to RHEL 6
