Httpd refuses to start due to missing 'run' directory under ServerRoot after upgrade to RHEL8

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Httpd refuses to start.
  • Ansible template to install and configure Httpd which worked on RHEL7 does not work on RHEL8.

  • HTTPD service fail with the below error

[core:error] [pid xxxx:tid xxxxxx] (2)No such file or directory: AH00099: could not create /etc/httpd/run/httpd.pid
[core:error] [pid xxxx:tid xxxxxx] AH00100: httpd: could not log pid to file /etc/httpd/run/httpd.pid

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8
    • RHEL 8.6
  • Httpd 2.4
  • Upgrade from RHEL7 to RHEL8
