How do run multiple instances of JBoss on RHEL installed via RPM?

Issue

We can set environment variables per server profile by adding run.conf to the profile directory in $JBOSS_HOME/server/<profile>. Is there another way to specify environment variables per instances on RHEL, when JBoss is installed via RPM?
When Tomcat is installed via RPM on RHEL we simply add environment variables to /etc/sysconfig/INSTANCE. Does this work with JBoss?
