Issue

  • How to create clone channel on Satellite ?

Resolution

  • To clone channel on Red Hat Satellite 5, please follow the steps below:
  1. Login to Red Hat Satellite Web Interface
  2. Go to "Channels"
  3. Then click on "Manage Software Channels"
  4. Click on "clone channel" link at the right top corner of this page
  5. Select a channel for "Clone From:" .
  6. Select any of the 3 options to "Clone:" i.e. (all errata), (no errata), Select errata .
  7. Click on "Create Channel" button.
  • If you want to create clone of any specific channel then before creating clone of that channel confirm whether it is synced on the Satellite. You can check output of
    satellite-sync --list (for Satellite 5.6 and 5.7), OR cdn-sync --list (for Satellite 5.8) :
"." indicates that the channels are never synced
"p" indicates that channels are synced.

To sync the channel :

  • For Satellite 5.6 and 5.7 :-
 # satellite-sync -c <channel_name>
  • For Satellite 5.8 :-
 # cdn-sync -c <channel_name>

Example:

# satellite-sync -c rhn-tools-rhel-4-as-i386
# cdn-sync -c rhn-tools-rhel-4-as-i386

So you can sync the channel on Satellite and then create clone of that channel.
