IPMI service status returns "/dev/ipmi0 does not exist" in RHEL 6

Issue

  • While checking the status of the service ipmi, it displays that /dev/ipmi0 does not exist.

    #service ipmi status
ipmi_msghandler module loaded.
ipmi_si module loaded.
ipmi_devintf module loaded.
/dev/ipmi0 does not exist.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • OpenIPMI-2.0.16-12.el6
