Kickstarted machines do not install the packages as configured in anaconda.cfg.

Solution Verified - Updated -

  • Red Hat Network Satellite 5.4.1

  • After kickstarting a machine and the registration on our Satellite with the configured activationkey the installation process stops during the process.

After updating the Satellite to version 5.4.1, all the kickstarted machines will have their /etc/sysconfig/rhn/rhnplugin.conf set to 0 instead to 1.

Change this entry to 1 and the installation will continue as before.

Root Cause

The deactivation via 0 in the rhnplugin.conf excludes any further installation process. It should be 1 per default.

Also note that the set activation key has no effect in this case.

Diagnostic Steps

1. Check the contents of the file /etc/sysconfig/rhn/rhnplugin.conf.

2. Check the logs in the kickstarted machine by copying the logs to the disk

%pre --log=/tmp/pre.log
//pre scripts and commands go here
/usr/bin/cp /tmp/pre.log /mnt/sysimage/root/pre.log
/usr/bin/cp /tmp/post.log /mnt/sysimage/root/post.log
