After upgrade from 5.3 to 5.6, application failing PAM authentication

Issue

  • After upgrading a system from 5.3 to 5.6, the application running on the system, Omnibus Netcool, is failing to authenticate users via PAM.

  • From /var/log/secure:

    Jul 25 16:27:07 supercomputer DEV_PRI_PA[5485]: 
pam_unix(netcool:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=200010
euid=200010 tty= ruser= rhost=  user=netcool

Jul 25 16:47:12 supercomputer
 DEV_PRI_PA[5485]: pam_unix(netcool:auth): authentication failure; 
logname= uid=200010 euid=200010 tty= ruser= rhost=  user=awesome

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.6
  • s390
  • LDAP or LDAPS authentication
  • IBM Omnibus Netcool running with pam authentication option: 
    • netcool   1460     1  0 16:05 ?        00:00:00 
/opt/IBM/netcool/omnibus/platform/linux2s390/bin/nco_pad -name 
DEV_PRI_PA -authenticate PAM
