How to disable parentheses highlighting feature in vi?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux all versions. 
  • VI editor

Issue

  • How to set 'vi' so it does not high light Parentheses?

Resolution

  • This can be achieved either by executing  'NoMatchParen' at 'VI' prompt *OR * by creating .vimrc file in users home directory.

    • Create .vimrc file in your home directory.

    • Add below line to your ~/.vimrc file .

      let loaded_matchparen = 1

  • After modificaiton vim interface will not load pi_paren plugin which provides "Highlighting matching parens" functionality.
