In kickstarting of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 systems, the equivalent of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5's `network --bootproto=query` doesn't work

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Using kickstart profiles with our RHN Satellite server, with the following network settings in "Advanced options"

    Network: --bootproto=query device=eth0

  • This option prompts to enter network settings during the installation. This works well when installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, but it doesn't work with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. According to this Red Hat Documentation --bootproto=query is deprecated. This document also explains that Now, having no network line means that installation will halt and prompt for input. But the method doesn't seem to work.
  • Need a way to enter the following information during kickstart installation:

    hostname, network IP, mask, gateway

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Installation
  • anaconda-13.21.117
  • Kickstart Installation.
