LVM is slow in Red Hat Storage 2.1

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

LVM is a documented requirement for Red Hat Storage, but tests show LVM itself is very slow. The snapshot feature is not yet available, so can we go ahead and NOT use LVM for new clusters?

This is a simple benchmark on LVM that has 10 RAID 10 disks:

# dd if=/dev/zero of=/data/t/test.dat bs=4096 count=100000 conv=fsync
100000+0 records in
100000+0 records out
409600000 bytes (410 MB) copied, 2.24789 s, 182 MB/s

And this is just 2 disk partition with RAID 10:

# dd if=/dev/zero of=test.dat bs=4096 count=100000 conv=fsync
100000+0 records in
100000+0 records out
409600000 bytes (410 MB) copied, 1.08647 s, 377 MB/s
