Why it is not possible to remove the Default Cluster from Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Environment?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization(RHEV) 3.x

Issue

  • Unable to remove the Default cluster with errors referencing the Blank Template template
  • The Blank Template template does not appear to be in use

Resolution

  • The blank template serves as the parent for any VM that does not explicitly have a parent template. This blank template resides under Default Cluster and hence its not possible to remove Default Cluster from RHEV environment. But its possible to rename the Default Cluster and change the Datacenter if required.

Root Cause

  • The Blank Template serves as a default parent in the database for any entity that does not have a parent explicitly defined.
