RHEL5: dumpe2fs '-ob' option does not work, giving "No such file or directory"

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • I am trying to use the '-ob' option of dumpe2fs to dump out backup superblock information. However I keep getting the following error, indicating 'No such file or directory', even though dumpe2fs -f shows a valid backup superblock at 8193:
# dumpe2fs -ob 8193 /dev/vda1
dumpe2fs 1.39 (29-May-2006)
dumpe2fs: No such file or directory while trying to open 8193
Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock.

# dumpe2fs -f /dev/vda1 | grep super
dumpe2fs 1.39 (29-May-2006)
