NIS/YP not picking up UID < 500 after RHEL 5.x Upgrade

Issue

  • NIS map isn't populating with users with UID < 500
  • MINUID is set to 20
  • MINGID is set to 200
  • Changing a users UID to 500+ inside the NIS hosts /etc/passwd and running ypmake puts that user into the maps. 
  • Appears to be only occuring at sites after an update to RHEL5u5.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5u5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5u6
  • RHEL acting as a NIS server
  • Recent package upgrade including the ypserv package
