'/dev/cdrom' is not available during the run of %post for RHEL 5 kickstart, as opposed to a RHEL 4 kickstart

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • During a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 kickstart installation, the '/dev/cdrom' symbolic link to the cdrom device file is found to be not available during the running of the '%post' section of the kickstart. The symbolic link '/dev/cdrom' is present at the same stage during the kickstart installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. The '/dev/cdrom' symbolic link provides an easy and generic way to have the cdrom mounted during the running of the '%post', without querying for the name of the actual device file.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
