Starting the cgred service in RHEL 6 fails with "Error: libcgroup initialization failed, 50001"

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When I started the cgred daemon it came up with this message:

    # service cgred start
Starting CGroup Rules Engine Daemon: Error: libcgroup initialization failed, 50001
                                                           [FAILED]

There are no messages in /var/log/messages or my chosen LOG_FILE to indicate why it failed.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6
