After upgrading to RHEL 7.8 Intel NIC lldp issue causes NIC to lose connection

Solution In Progress - Updated -

  • After upgrading to RHEL 7.8, lldp is enabled on the intel NIC firmware and the NIC will send lldp frames on boot and then stop sending lldp frames
  • lldp is not configured on the OS using lldpd service or lldptool package, however the NIC is still sending out lldpd frames on boot
  • The switchport is shutting off some time after server boot when lldpd frames are seen from server on boot and then stop
  • Network switch does not see lldpd responses from server NIC for X minutes and then the switch disables the port

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.8
  • Intel XL710 10GbE NIC
  • i40e in-kernel driver using firmware 6.0
