How to set system wide default keyboard layout in RHEL6 ?

Issue

  • Is there any way to set system wide default keyboard layout in RHEL6 ?

  • The system configuration for keyboard is defined in /etc/sysconfig/keyboard, but it is not working.

    Eg:

    # cat /etc/sysconfig/keyboard 
KEYTABLE="de"
MODEL="pc105"
LAYOUT="de"
KEYBOARDTYPE="pc"

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • GNOME
