Does Red Hat support PTP over bond + VLAN configuration?

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • The ptp4l daemon fails to start in a bonding VLAN configuration although it succeeds in a non-VLAN configuration.

  • Bonded pair of Ethernet interfaces in VLAN, both supporting PTP timestamping

  • The error is:

 ~]# ptp4l -f /etc/ptp4l.conf -i bond1.15 -m -S
ptp4l[1911294.479]: interface 'bond1.15' does not support requested timestamping mode
failed to create a clock

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
    • 7
    • 8
    • 9
  • linuxptp
