gedit and kedit do not remember or save words previously added to the dictionary.
Why is en_US.dic being overwritten when adding new words using gedit?

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
enchant-1.5.0-4.el6
gedit-2.28.4-3.el6, kedit, kwrite, and other applications using enchant.
