fence_vmware_soap fails when ESXi host for a VM crashes, powers off, or becomes unavailable in a RHEL High Availability cluster

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • fence_vmware_soap fails if the ESXi server hosting the VM becomes inaccessible
  • Our tests show an issue in case of hardware failure of one ESXi host (rgmanager blocking forever)
  • Fencing of VMware VMs fails when the host is unavailable
  • Our VMware host for a VM cluster node crashed, and the other VMs in the cluster running on other hosts stopped working

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5, 6, or 7 with the High Availability Add On
  • fence_vmware_soap
