Duplication of host names in syslog server logs

Issue

  • A sysklogd log server accepts remote logs from RHEL4 and RHEL5 machines without issue; however, on the syslog server all log entries from RHEL6 machines have the hostname duplicated in them, e.g.:

    Mar  8 09:25:24 example.com  example.com  kernel: Zone PFN ranges:
Mar  8 09:25:24 example.com  example.com  Using APIC driver default

Why is this happening and how can it be fixed?

Environment

  • log server running standard syslog
  • clients running rsyslog
