Clustered IP resource without a CIDR-format netmask fails to start in RHEL 5 or 6

Issue

  • Why is a virtual IP resource not starting correctly in cluster service?
Feb  6 17:08:36 node1 rgmanager[25438]: start on ip "192.168.122.111/255.255.255.0" returned 1 (generic error)
Feb  6 17:08:36 node1 rgmanager[25438]: #68: Failed to start service:VIP-IP; return value: 1

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 or 6 with the High Availability Add On
  • One or more services containing an <ip> resource in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf
    • <ip address> attribute does not contain a netmask listed in CIDR notation
