Are rpc* services needed to provide NFS service on RHEL5?

  • There are the following 3 services related to RPC on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.

    # chkconfig --list | grep rpc
rpcgssd         0:off   1:off   2:off   3:on    4:on    5:on    6:off
rpcidmapd       0:off   1:off   2:off   3:on    4:on    5:on    6:off
rpcsvcgssd      0:off   1:off   2:off   3:off   4:off   5:off   6:off

  • We'd like to implement a new NFS server on RHEL5 to replace RHEL3 server. Then, are these rpc* services needed for this requirement?
