RHV-H Issues when booting from iscsi target and local disk

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • I have install RHVH to iSCSI volume. This system does not have ibft. For this reason I must utilize the local 32GB HDD to host the /boot and /boot/efi partitions so the system can load and boot from iSCSI volume.
  • I need to modify the default partition layout of RHVH to enable these options:
    • /var needs extra space for hosted-engine deployment
    • /swap needs increasing
    • / reduced to 50GB size to make extra space available to the above
    • /boot has devices modified to select ONLY the internal HDD (and not the iscsi volume)
    • /boot/efi has devices modified to select ONLY the internal HDD (and not the iscsi volume)
  • After selecting the above options and completing the install, the system reboots and gets stuck at the booting screen in quiet mode. The loading bar reaches maximum and then the screen is stuck at this point.
  • If I reboot and then press a keyboard arrow to show the non-quiet loading screen, the system hangs and the loading bar stops progressing. The non-quiet loading screen is not shown.

Environment

  • Red Hat Virtualization 4.3
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.7 (as a RHV Hypervisor)
