Why do USB disk with vfat filesystem not automount with "Timed out waiting for hotplug" message, but after restarting 'hald' service it may be mounted on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.9 ?
Issue
- hald prints message similar to "Timed out waiting for hotplug event 586. Rebasing to 590", as seem from /var/log/messages.
- fstab-sync doesn't update /etc/fstab after RHBA-2011:0174-1 update is installed
- USB drives with vfat filesystem are not automounted, whereas with linux (ext2/ext3/..) do.
- The system recognized that the usb removable disk is inserted, but it will not mount as seen from /var/log/message. Upon restarting haldaemon, the disk may be mounted.
$ cat /var/log/message.
