How can we change the settings so that there is a new index created per project only every 5th day?

Issue

As we have 9.000 shards over 3 elastic nodes, this value seams to be very high. We used Red Hat default configuration so far, so there is an index created every day for every project. Would it make sense to change the default configuration, so that there will be created an index per project only every 3 or 5 days? So we could reduce the number of shards per node significantly.
We have tried to change following variables at logging-elasticsearch configmap, but nothing has changed:

appender.rolling.policies.time.interval
appender.rolling.filePattern
