Oracle instance falsely reported down followed by ORA-09925: Unable to create audit trail file, No space left on device

Issue

Oracle instance is reported to be "not OPEN" accompanied with ORA-09925 error, however it is in open state:

WARNING: Unable to login as "$MONUSR", using "sysdba" user instead
INFO: 'XXXXXX' instance state is not OPEN (dbstat output: SP2-0640: Not connected)
ERROR: oracle instance 'XXXXXX' is down
ERROR:#ORA-09925: Unable to create audit trail file#Linux-x86_64 Error: 28: No space left on device

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 with High Availability Add-On
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 with Resilient Storage Add-On
  • Oracle Database as cluster resource (oracle resource agent)
