Why does "sm-notify -v hostname" doesn't work when IPV6_SUPPORT is enabled?

Issue

It appears that when IPv6 support is enabled that it breaks sm-notify when using the -v option with a IPv4 address.
/var/log/messages reinforces this since it states that the address family is not supported. This appears to be fixed in upstream. Can/Will this patch be back-ported to RHEL 6?
