selinux errors on HP ILO devices

Issue

  • Getting following error messages in syslog:

    Jan 17 13:57:10 hostname setroubleshoot: SELinux is preventing ethtool (ifconfig_t) "read write" access to device /dev/hpilo/d0ccb7.

Permissions on /dev/hpilo/* are as follows:

$ ls -lZ /dev/hpilo/
crw-------  root root system_u:object_r:device_t       d0ccb0
crw-------  root root system_u:object_r:device_t       d0ccb1
crw-------  root root system_u:object_r:device_t       d0ccb2
crw-------  root root system_u:object_r:device_t       d0ccb3
crw-------  root root system_u:object_r:device_t       d0ccb4
crw-------  root root system_u:object_r:device_t       d0ccb5
crw-------  root root system_u:object_r:device_t       d0ccb6
crw-------  root root system_u:object_r:device_t       d0ccb7

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.6
  • HP system with ILO hardware
  • selinux policy packages prior to selinux-policy-2.4.6-316.el5
