Are RHEL 5.6 and RHEL 6 AMIs available to EC2 Basic subscribers?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (RHEL 6) on Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.6 (RHEL 5.6) on Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud)

Issue

  • When viewing the  Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs (Amazon Machine Images) available to an EC2 Beta account, only RHEL 5.5 and older images are listed. Are there any RHEL 5.6 or RHEL 6 images available?

Resolution

  • The EC2 beta trial is nearing the end of its life-cycle and there are no  plans to make newer images available to customers with beta test  accounts. A new program with a similar fee structure will be announced  in the near future for our more cost-conscious customers.

  • RHEL5.6 and RHEL6 images are currently only available to customers with Premium subscriptions. For the time being, only Premium subscribers will have access to the newer images. For details on how a Premium license may be obtained, please visit the following link:  http://www.redhat.com/solutions/cloud/amazon/

  • Click the "Subscribe Now" button below the section labeled "Cloud  Access feature of Red Hat Enterprise Linux Premium subscriptions." The  program will be explained on the following pages before any fees are asked for.

Note:
  • EC2 Beta trial images are only available in the US East grid
