"Unable to create directory" error leads Elasticsearch pod to a "CrashLoopBackOff" status

Issue

  • Elasticsearch is unable to get into a healthy state as the following errors stream in the container logs:

    ERROR Unable to create file /elasticsearch/persistent/logging-es/logs/logging-es_index_search_slowlog.log java.io.IOException: Could not create directory /elasticsearch/persistent/logging-es/logs
