Upgrading to RHS2.0 U5 (3.3.0.11rhs) causes crashes of glusterfs/nfs and hangs on connected NFS-clients

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Performing the recommended upgrade of glusterfs on our RHS servers, the gluster-nfs mechanism failed, causing all of the NFS-clients to hang for several hours.
  • Updating was done as a rolling live upgrade. The hang occurred immediately after the first of 4 RHS servers got the upgrade.
  • After many attempts to remedy the problem, the only fix that worked was doing a yum downgrade glusterfs on the servers. NFS functionality was immediately restored. The downgraded version available was glusterfs-3.3.0.7rhs-1.

Environment

  • Red Hat Storage 2.0
  • update to GlusterFS version 3.3.0.11rhs
  • NFS-clients connected to Red Hat Storage volumes
