Why do the block sizes differ in mounted and unmounted XFS filesystems when querying with blockdev --getbsz ?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • In the creation of XFS filesystems, when executing blockdev --report there are some DM with a BSZ of 512 instead of 4096, we would like to find the pattern by which this is so or if it is done automatically.

  • Why are some DM with BSZ of 512 after creating XFS filesystems? We would expect BSZ 4096 when checking with blockdev --report, or is there some automatic behaviour that changes it?

  • Why does the block sizes differ in XFS filesystems when querying with blockdev --getbsz in comparison with what you see with xfs_info /?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7
