A partition cannot be cleared in a dasd device with the kickstart installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • The clearpart command in the kickstart is getting ignored, though the same command worked fine for a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2 kickstart.
  • Using a z/VM, and trying to clear minidisk partitions on a rebuild of a zlinux server.
  • All minidisks in the z/VM guest that should be used for the server itself (instead of the 191 guest parm disk, for instance) are 200-255, so figured this would clear them all.
  • Used the following clearpart commands, but all of them failed.
clearpart --all --linux --initlabel
clearpart --all --initlabel
clearpart --linux --initlabel

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4
  • zlinux
