cluster ip resource could not be reached by clients even though service was still active in RHEL 5 or 6

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Cluster ip resource was unavailable on the network, even though the service was running and status checks were still succeeding
  • Some clients were not able to ping to the cluster service virtual IP. The service was unreachable and caused the application to fail to launch. After restarting the cluster service, the issue gone and clients are able to connect/ping to the cluster service virtual IP and connect to DB again.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6 with the High Availability Add On
  • rgmanager
  • One or more services with an <ip> resource in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf
