Why does Inter-Satellite Sync (ISS) via satellite-sync take much longer after upgrading Satellite 5 to 5.8?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • After upgrading an ISS slave Satellite 5.7 to 5.8, satellite-sync takes much longer to complete than it did while it was running Satellite 5.7.
  • The output of satellite-sync shows that steps "Diffing package metadata" and "Linking packages to channels" are behind most of the extra time.

Environment

  • Red Hat Satellite 5.8
  • PostgreSQL database (embedded, managed or external)
  • Inter-Satellite Sync slave
