Replacing the root file system if it has no inodes left

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

Original error:

 OSError: [Errno 28] No space left on device: '/tmp/

when we try to install any package we getting error message as above.
output of df -i shows there is no free inode

Filesystem                        Inodes   IUsed   IFree IUse% Mounted on               
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00   524288  524288       0  100% /

How do we fix this?
