Allocation failure scanning for APs in RHEL6

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Request for backport of Fedora BZ 534003 to RHEL6 - Original bug description follows:
  • I'm at the customer's location sitting around with hundreds of APs around me. Network Manager failed to connect to anything, and when I try to determine why I get:
[root@pgpdev warlord]# iwlist wlan0 scan
print_scanning_info: Allocation failed
  • I can manually ifup and iwconfig to get on the network, but not being able to scan is a MAJOR issue.
  • iwlist wlan0 scan fails in high-density AP area
  • We have scripts using iwlist wlan0 scan to check availability of certain wireless networks. However, when there are a great number of APs around, only the error "print_scanning_info: Allocation failed" is printed.
  • There's already a patch available in upstream and this is also being tracked for Fedora at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=534003.
  • Please backport the fix for RHEL 6 to allow the local script to use iwlist wlan0 scan.
