What is the difference between the "Delete" and "Uninventory" actions in JBoss ON?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss Operations Network (ON) 3.1.2, 3.2.x, 3.3.x

Issue

  • Unable to delete wars that have already been removed from my jboss
  • Unable to delete wars that are alerted.
  • Deleted wars continue appearing on my jon console.
  • What is the difference between "Delete" and "Uninventory"?

Resolution

The Delete action should be used when the desire is to remove the child WAR/EAR/datasource/etc from the managed server. This will affect the configuration or file system of the managed server as well as the JBoss ON inventory.

The Uninventory action should be used when the desire is to remove the resource from the JBoss ON inventory and not affect the actual managed server. This could be used for removing servers that no longer need to be monitored, or for removing services such as WARs or datasources from the JBoss ON inventory when they have already been removed from the managed server.
