atd generates massive numbers of syslog messages due to an empty jobfile

Issue

  • Client running into a problem of 'atd' not handling the case where a job file is empty. As a consequence, over 800 million messages were sent to the syslog server:
Jun  3 01:10:05 testhost atd[8310]: File a01516015c7345 is in wrong format - aborting
Jun  3 01:10:05 testhost atd[8313]: File a01525015c73b4 is in wrong format - aborting
Jun  3 01:10:05 testhost atd[8312]: File a01524015c7378 is in wrong format - aborting
Jun  3 01:10:05 testhost atd[8318]: File a01528015c7468 is in wrong format - aborting
Jun  3 01:10:05 testhost atd[8315]: File a01526015c73f0 is in wrong format - aborting
