Utilize Shared system storage for RHEL systems to boot off of one image or filesystem set
Issue
- Shared system storage (filesystem) needs to be mounted and used by a number of systems. The utility of having one system image/filesystem to be shared among systems is of great benefit for systems administration and for support purposes
- PXE boot or diskless clients need to be able to share a filesystem.
- It is very helpful for cloud installations to have a shared system image shared over NFS. The problem is that currently the distro isn't setup well for this kind of installation.
- Red Hat needs a solution to boot disklessly RHEL workstations. That solution needs to include a simple mechanism to support having one system image for all the workstations. Otherwise this can lead to issues with updating 1000's of workstations. Having one image would mean one place to update software and then all workstations that use that image would in effect "be updated".
