After NFS server was restarted NFS client mountpoints became crossed in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • After restarting the NFS server, NFS clients appeared to mount shares that were not associated with the exports the clients were supposed to be mounting.
  • NFS clients saw incorrect data under NFS shares following an NFS server reboot.
  • An example of this behavior seen on two NFS clients NFS mounts can be found below:
   Client A ClientB
   /dir /dir
   /dir/directory1 /dir/directory2

following the reboot:

   ClientA ClientB
   /dir /dir
   /dir/directory2 /dir/directory1

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 acting as NFS server
  • Using LVM as back-end storage for NFS shares
