Gear not restarting on deployment

Issue

I have a web application that I deployed successfully in a non-scalable environment. However, I am facing issues in a scalable deployment.

gear environment: small, ews 1.0, scalable, mysql

attached are catalina.out and httpd-status screens. i pushed the war file and it starts the application, but the gears go down and never come up. No self healing by creating another gear either.
