"port 22: Connection refused" error with sshd server

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Seeing below error while trying to connect to a server over ssh:
ssh: connect to host <servername> port 22: Connection refused

  • sshd is up and we are able to ssh to the server from desktop, but not from Production to DR server

  • iptables is off but can't connect over ssh on default port 22, netstat shows sshd is listening properly

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
