Unable to mount Ceph filesystem

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • Trying to mount ceph vis fstab leads to error log entries in messages / dmesg, similar to the following:

    [102.291187] libceph: resolve 'host01' (ret=0): 192.168.0.2:0
    [102.291187] libceph: resolve 'host02' (ret=0): 192.168.0.3:0
[102.291187] libceph: bad option at 'secretfile=/etc/ceph/admin.secret'

  • Trying to mount ceph on the command line with mount -t ceph <options> leads to an error message similar to the following:

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on host01:6789,host02:6789:/ceph.share,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error

In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
           dmesg | tail or so.

  • mount.ceph not available. Eg. the following error message can be seen on the command line:

    # mount.ceph
    -bash: mount.ceph: command not found
