How do I interpret the qla2xxx and qla4xxx driver version string?

Resolution

In some cases it may appear as though the qla2xxx or qla4xxx driver in a new RHEL minor release is older than the driver in an earlier RHEL release. This is because the driver version string has several components. If it is not interpreted corrrectly, it may not appear to be increasing.

The qla2xxx and qla4xxx modules use the following versioning scheme for Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases:

major.minor.patch.subminor.distro.distrolevel-kn

For example, 8.03.01.04.05.05-k8.

The first three fields and the "-kn" identifier relate which upstream driver this distribution driver is related to.  In our example, This driver relates to the 8.03.01-k8 driver. The last three fields give distribution specific information. In the example above, 04.05.05 means that this driver is for RHEL 5.5 (the 05.05) and that this is the fourth revision (the .04) of the RHEL 5.5 driver.
