CUPS creates printers with the same name but with "@some.ip.address" as a suffix in RHEL 7

Issue

  • We see the following:

    # lpstat -p
    printer WS21 is idle.  enabled since Mon 25 Mar 2019 07:51:08 AM GMT
    printer WS21@10.1.2.3 is idle.  enabled since Mon 25 Mar 2019 07:55:51 AM GMT
    printer WS22 is idle.  enabled since Wed 30 Jan 2019 05:04:12 PM GMT
    printer WS22@10.1.2.3 is idle.  enabled since Mon 25 Mar 2019 07:55:51 AM GMT
    printer WK21 is idle.  enabled since Wed 06 Feb 2019 05:36:14 PM GMT
    printer WK21@10.1.2.3 is idle.  enabled since Mon 25 Mar 2019 07:55:51 AM GMT
    printer KPR_1 is idle.  enabled since Tue 22 Jan 2019 12:55:37 PM GMT
    printer KPR_1@10.1.2.3 is idle.  enabled since Mon 25 Mar 2019 07:55:51 AM GMT
    printer NLN1 is idle.  enabled since Thu 27 Apr 2017 03:29:24 PM GMT
    printer NLN1@10.1.2.3 is idle.  enabled since Mon 25 Mar 2019 07:55:51 AM GMT

    Every printer name is duplicated and @10.1.2.3 is added to the queue name.
