Enabling IP forwarding (on an individual interface) using kernel 2.6.18-194.11.1.el5 causes system to panic
Issue
-
After updating servers to kernel version 2.6.18-194.11.1.el5 , the servers that are doing IP forwarding consistently kernel panic during the boot-up process. The stack trace seems to indicate it's a problem with sysctl, perhaps related to forwarding configuration in /etc/sysctl.conf.
-
Rolling back to previous kernel (2.6.18-194.3.1.el5) will allow the machine to boot correctly. It's reproducible 100% of the time.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5
- Kernel 2.6.18-194.11.1.el5
