System is unable to load third party modules after upgrading kernel

Issue

  • Following messages are seen during the bootup process after upgrading from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.4 to 4.8. 

    A newer version than this already exists in this kernel
    Bad Exit status 101.  
    
  • Servers are experiencing trouble loading 4 new kernel modules after the upgrade (aic79xx 2.0.14, bnx2 1.4.51b, e1000 7.3.15.3, tg3 3.75b).
